Website Optimisation is the technical term for improving your website. It is the process of experimenting with different ideas until you see an improvement on your goals for the page.
At Wiser Websites it is very important to us that your business/site does well, and that you achieve the goals that you set. Because it is so important to us we have 5 things that we will do if we host your site.
1. Automatic image resizing
No one likes it when an image takes a long time to load. A customer may only be on your site for a few seconds. It is important to make a good impression and to get them hooked on your site. A loading image may give them a wrong impression and therefore they may go elsewhere. At Wiser Websites our Image Content Delivery Network (CDN) will go through your site and scan every image to make sure they will load quickly. If they don’t it will resize your images and make sure they are compatible for both mobile and desktop users.
2. Image Compression
Images can carry a lot of data with them, it is normally that large amount of data that causes the image to take a long time to load. If you use images such as ‘Raw’ Images (this is images that haven’t been edited and have come straight from a camera) there will be added data and information behind the photo that is not needed. This means you can either compress it or remove it without effecting the photo. At Wiser Websites we do this for you. Our CDN will compress your images making there be less unneeded data on your site.
3. Next-Gen image formats
We have a range of image optimisation tools at Wiser websites. We will use these tools to convert your image files and make them fast-loading next-gen images. This will mean covering them into formats such as: JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, and WebP.
4. Code minification
There can be alot of white space on websites. White space can add code that is unnecessary to your site. With our CND we can minify and strip the whitespace from our code. We will compress your HTML, CSS and JavaScript files so you can spend less time parsing, compiling and executing it. By doing these things we will be reducing the Network payload meaning that your site is able to load faster.
5. Lazy loading
When you have a large site, it can be a lot to load the site all at once, therefore we do Lazy loading.
Lazy loading is when customer click on your site and only the bit of the site that is being presented will be loaded immediately. This allows the rest of the site to load slower. The user will be occupied on the first page for enough time for the rest of the site to catch up. Another word for this is ‘above the fold’ and ‘below’ it. A fold in this instance is to do with scrolling. Above the fold is the bit of the page you see instantly when you go on it. Below the fold is the information you scroll down to see. So, in this example above the fold will be loaded first and then as you scroll down the other data will load.
These are just a few of the many ways Wiser Websites will help you and your websites succeed.
