Crafting a good page title is something I have discussed before but it’s so integral to basic foundation level Search Engine Optimisation that I thought I would write another F.A.Q style SEO article on the topic.
How long should the title be for optimal SEO?
If you want to keep your whole title in SERPs, which you usually do, create a title tag containing fewer than 70 characters including spaces. Use the ‘ | ‘ as a way of adding a cheeky category in there.
Does title length effect your SEO ranking?
Google cuts off long titles in the SERPs after a certain number of characters 65-70 – depending on your own word breaks, however it “reads” and considers the whole title. However, the longer you make your title the more you are diluting your keywords, unless you are aiming for extremely long-tail keyword phrases (not recommended).
Does it matter for SEO to extend beyond SERP’s 70 characters?
The most important thing to remember is people still need to click on your link no matter how high it ranks. It is not important to keep it short but it is important to add your keywords closer to the beginning within visibility so both google AND the user see that the page title is relevant.
Why Does SEO Matter?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the method by which one improves the visibility of a webpage and therefore the traffic to that website. Considered a form of digital advertising it forms ofne of the core pillars of digital marketing.
