WordPress 6.0 is replacing the WordPress 5.9 version on Tuesday the 24th of May 2022.
What is WordPress?
WordPress is a Content Management System. On the 27th of May 2003 the first version of WordPress was released. Since then, there has been 562 different versions. The first version was 0.70 and now it has gone all the way up to 6.0.
The core developers of WordPress love to keep everything up to date. they do not hang around when it comes to improving WordPress. So much so there is 6.1 version planned to be released by the end of the year.
WordPress 6.0

WordPress 6.0 is the second major release of 2022. The main focus of this update is to better the users experience.
“I think some of the features being released in 6.0 are absolutely going to empower that end-user.
Particularly in terms of improvements around design tools and some of the quality of life improvements.
For example, partially selecting across multiple blocks and being able to partially select texts there.
That’s the type of thing that really brings the writing experience in the editor to be on par with how you would expect a text editing experience to work.”
What are the major changes to WordPress in the 6.0 update?
Style switching
With the new WordPress 6.0 you can now change the theme of your site very easily. You now have the option to do it with a simple click. Being able to change the theme easily will enable you to make sure the look and the feel of your site matches the dynamic you wanted. With this new update you can change the style within the same block theme. As long as you have all the relevant styles and data downloaded ready to be used.
More Template Options
In the other versions on WordPress, you still have a few templates to choose from. However, with the WordPress 6.0 there is now a huge library of different templates you can use. This enables you to explore and find the correct templates for you. It also enables you to give your site a unique feel due to less people using them same templates. With this update you are able to edit and change templates such as Author, Category, Data, Tag and a few others. This is a huge expansion from earlier versions.
A featured Image on Cover Block
This is where you can set the featured image of your site. It enables you to create cool banners and heading covers very easily. With the new Image on Cover Block you can add more personalisation to your site with the use of images.
Cross Block Text Edit
There has been a lot of feedback on the current versions of WordPress where it is frustrating for users that they cannot edit across block. You can think of it like paragraphs. On the older versions you could not edit 2 paragraphs at a time. However, with this new 6.0 update you can edit the text as one big bit of context. This enables you to crop and change the text more freely with little hassle.
Design & Layout Controls
As I have mentioned previously this WordPress 6.0 update is all about helping the users experience. Therefore, it was very important to the creators of this version that the controls were made simplistic. There has been lots of improvement in this area. Some of them are:
- The colour palette has been upgraded and expanded.
- There are new options of how you would like the controls to be laid out.
- You are now able to change not only the colours and size of blocks but also the borders of blocks. You can now change the border colour enabling you to have even more control over the style and look of your site and the blocks.
WordPress 6.0 has a wide range of updates when it comes to the Design and Layout Controls these were just a few key ones.
Other improvements
Some other improvements included in the WordPress 6.0 include:
- A new Comment Query Block
- List view enhancements
- Block Locking UI
- Gallery Block Gap Support
- Easy Pattern Registration
Remember WordPress 6.0 Launches on Tuesday the 24th of May 2022. Don’t forget to get the upgrade.
