Adding to my last post, here are another 5 tips for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) when you are setting up a WordPress Website.
1. Use Links Correctly
You probably know that adding links to posts are crucial, but you may not have been aware of ways to optimize your SEO efforts in reference to links.
Links to your own posts: A majority of website owners often forget to interlink their posts to other posts on the website. Interlinking your own posts accumulates your overall SEO efforts as well as improving the user experience on your site, allowing readers to jump from one article to another. Of course, it is necessary to interlink posts only when it’s relevant. Never link merely for the purpose of linking.
2. Produce High-Quality Written Content
What is the most used SEO tactic for enhanced search engine rankings?
It’s high quality, well written, engaging content.
Whether you are running a blog or a corporate website, you are going to need quality content to rank higher in the search engines.
The idea of quality content is not only related to a post which is free of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes but also that appeals to the readers. It needs to be helpful to the reader, informative and ideally shareable.
3. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER Copy and Paste.
Perhaps most importantly content and blog posts need to be ‘Unique’.
A large industry has grown up in the last decade selling blogs to dentists, accountants and other professionals to keep their websites up to date. In the words of Wiser Websites – “What a con!”
These copy and paste press releases actually decrease your websites SEO rankings not increase them, as just like teachers Google and the other search engines detest plagiarism. This means if you are not writing unique content, don’t bother publishing it.
4. Use Correct Heading Tags
In regards to good SEO practices, appropriately using heading tags is extremely crucial. However, if you are just a beginner, you might not be aware of heading tags and how to use them correctly.
You can see heading tags in your editor and can choose from heading 1 to heading 5 or 6. But what do they mean and what is the difference?
In our experience, the H1 tag must always be employed for the title of the blog post and it is crucial to keep your H1 clear and informative.
Your title should tell your readers what exactly your content is about and they must be interested in reading the entire content. Once you have used H1 heading correctly, you would want to use H2 tag for additional headings and then H3 and H4 tags for sub-headings and so on.
Using heading tags is not only crucial for SEO but also for improving user engagement. It gives your users a better idea about your content and captures their attention in no time.
5. SSD Hosting
So, most people are now aware that since 2016, Google ranks a site based on page speed.
Apart from using regular SEO techniques, one need to use a good and reliable hosting for their sites. Making sure you have enough Bandwidth, CPU and Memory on your sever is crucial.
One tip we would recommend if you are trying to get an edge of competitors would be to look at whether your host uses SSD storage or older forms of data storage. Faster data means faster websites and for Wiser Websites this has become one of the most important factors for improving a site’s ranking over the last 18 months.
