Today, 5th June 2022 is World Environment Day!
The very first World Environment Day was in 1973. Therefore, there has been 49 years of celebrating this day. It is a chance for us to think about the Earth and our environment and see how we can help protect it.
Every year they pick a country to host and a theme for World Environment Day.
2021
Last year’s theme was Ecosystem Restoration and was hosted by Pakistan. The movement was all about restoring ecosystems. This could be planting a tree or crop, using fresh produce or recycling.
Here are some highlights from World Environment Day 2021:

This World Environment Day the theme is ‘Only One Earth’. It is being hosted by Sweden and its main focus is on “Living sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.
I came across a short film that highlights our one Earth. It is by Romain Pennes and I feel it really shows the wonders of our Earth but also the problems we are causing.
After seeing those beautiful landscapes only to finish on seeing all the landfill we have provided. It can make you wonder which of the many landscapes we will ruin next. It is so important now than ever that we stop the increase in pollution. We need to protect our One Earth. Not just for us but for our children and their children and many more generations to come.
Let’s make today a day we start to change the way we see the Earth. Let us protect it not just for the next 24 hours but from now on. If we all make a conscious effort to help protect this Earth imagine how much change, we can make.
