When is world password day?
World Password Day land on the first Thursday in May. That means this year it lands on the 5th May 2022.
Having a secure Password is so important. They help prevent people from hacking into your devices and sites. Without having secure passwords people are able to gain access to your bank details, home address, mobile number and many more personal information.
5 tips on how to create and have strong passwords
1. Make your password long
The longer your password is the harder it is for someone to guess it. If your password is 12 characters long it will take someone longer to guess then a 5 character password. For example, ‘wiserwebsites’ is better than ‘wiser’.
2. Make it confusing
It is okay if your password doesn’t make sense. If anything, its better if it doesn’t. The passwords that are not a word or a sequence, the ones that are truly random are those that are most secure because it will take a very lucky person to guess it.
3. Add special characters
The more special characters you put in your password the stronger it is. Most people do the easy way of fulfilling this by simply putting a ‘!’ at the end of their password. This still helps it become stronger. However, a lot of people do it, so it is easy to predict that you have done it too. I would highly recommend putting special characters within your password. For example if my password was ‘wiserwebsites’ It could change it to ‘wI$eRweb$!te$’. As you can see, I have added in a lot of special characters and done a mixture of both uppercase and lowercase letters.
4. Don’t tell anyone
Now when I say don’t tell anyone I mean don’t tell anyone. It can become a huge habit to tell your friends your passwords and this is a huge security issue. That friend could pass on your passwords to someone else and it could get into the wrong hands. The only exception to this rule is if it is a security reason you gave it out. For example, if you are a child, it is best if your parents know your passwords.
5. Change them regularly
The final tip I would give you to make your passwords secure is to change them regularly. This means it is harder to guess your passwords as they are always changing. It is also a great thing to do if you have had to give your password to someone for some reason. Being able to then change it re secures that security.
Remember
The Password ‘wI$eRweb$!te$’ follows all the steps I have just said. It is over 12 characters long, It has a range of special characters and upper and lowercase letters, it is confusing. However, I have just told everyone so therefore it wouldn’t be very secure for me to use anymore!
Remember it is important to have secure passwords on all devices and sites to stop people from gaining access to them.
